The main goal, in Kindergarten, is to help your child become comfortable in a school setting and accustomed to a more structured daily schedule. The children learn how to get along with others, follow rules, and the basic skills needed to begin to read, write, and do math.
•Recognize and form letters of the alphabet
•Match sounds to each letter
•Recognize and use rhyming words
•Begin reading words by using initial consonant sounds and blends as in -an (fan, man, can) and -at (sat, rat, pat)
•Recognize a few frequently used sight words such as: the, and, is
•Begin reading short sentences and two to three sentence “stories”
•Capitalize the first and last name of a person and the words "I" and “God”
•Count, recognize, and write numbers up to 20
•Identify, draw, cut, and name different shapes
•Classify and group objects according to shape, color, size and texture
